Summer Interior Design Trends 2024/2025 – What You Should Be Keeping Your Eye Out For

This year, we’re seeing a change in how people decorate their houses. It almost seems as if people aren’t afraid to decorate their personal spaces exactly how they want to. It’s the year of anything goes.

So, is that a trend in and of itself?

Well, we hope so. Trends can often make people feel like they ought to decorate their homes in a certain way and they can be expensive and unsustainable. At Soffa Mag, we like to think of trends as inspiration. You don’t have to follow them just because designers are telling you you should. They can encourage you to look at your own space, assess the colours and textures you’re using, and possibly mix it up a bit. They certainly shouldn’t force you to go to your local furniture store and buy large and expensive items.

In this article, we’re putting together some of our favourite summer interior design trends. We’re including everything from colour and style to which decade is inspiring us.

7 Summer Design Trends for 2024/2025

1. Bling Is In (But in Moderation)

It’s not always easy to imagine how flashy or ostentatious design elements can work together. But bling doesn’t have to mean long and heavy drapes, crushed velvet furniture and ornate objects. It can simply mean richer colours, such as crimson and gold.

And you don’t have to go out and buy an entirely gold sofa either. Unless you want to.

There are thousands of ways to bring gold highlights to your interior design that don’t have to break the bank. Wallpaper is an excellent way to change an entire space without too much difficulty. Opt for a luxurious wallpaper with gold designs (that match the rest of your furniture) and create a feature wall to really make it stand out.

You can also think about changing your light fixtures or door handles. Small upgrades can help to create a modern, coherent and luxurious feel without being too over-the-top. We also love gold objects, such as vases, trays and picture frames. Mirrors are another excellent way to add luxury without making it feel like you live in a palace.

2. Multi-Functional Spaces

The pandemic changed a lot of things for a lot of people. One such thing was how we can use our space. Whether it’s because we were spending more time indoors, needed space for kids to play or were working from home, we had to get creative.

This creativity has carried on long past the pandemic and we still want to make the most of the space we have. We want rooms to adapt to our ever-changing needs which means we need to create functional and versatile spaces that also reflect our design style.

Furniture is one of the easiest ways to do this. Some incredibly beautiful, adaptable and functional pieces of furniture can work well with any interior decor. Think extendable tables, fold-away desks and convertible sofas to create dynamic and stylish spaces that work for you and your family.

3. It’s All About The Curves

For summer 2024/2025, we expect to see softer lines than we’ve seen in the last few years. Natural bends in woods, archways, and curved furniture are all becoming very popular due to their calming and cosy influence. Curves instantly add tranquillity to a room as they encourage you to relax and unwind.

But, as always with interior design, balance is really important. Not every object in your room needs to be curved. For example, a soft sofa with curved edges can be paired really nicely with a square cushion. Likewise, beds with soft edges can have more angular bedside tables.

Round shapes automatically feel more inviting and they go well with almost any colour scheme.

4. Plants Are Taking Centre Stage

Many designers love to use plants in their interior decor. Not only are there several health benefits to adding plants to your shelves (such as improved concentration, fresh air and better sleep) but they also bring a bright calmness to any space.

Biophilic design has always been popular, but it’s gaining even more momentum now and we expect to see this spread into summer 2024/2025.

Natural materials such as stone, wood and woven textures go perfectly with dark and bright green tones to offer a sense of tranquillity. Natural colours work really well too, including creams, browns, greys and white. Adding natural elements to your home is the perfect way to connect you to nature, improve your well-being and create a beautiful aesthetic.

6. Ditsy But Delicate Florals

One of the biggest patterns we’re expecting to see in Summer 2024/2025 is ditsy florals – small and intricate floral designs that can be in almost any colour. No doubt ditsy floral designs are a carry-on from the cottagecore styles we saw just after the pandemic.

For such a ‘busy’ design, small florals are actually quite easy to style. You can incorporate them in almost any room in the house. Think table linen, sofa throws, cushions and blankets. They help to bring a sense of colourful calm to a room and can go with almost any colour theme. They work particularly well with plain colours to help them pop.

7. Artisanal, Rustic Chic

Artisanal interior design is nothing new, but it’s certainly very popular for the coming year. With more people focusing on sustainability and slow design, artisanal pieces are at the forefront of many designer’s work. People love to have one-of-a-kind pieces and handmade woodwork and objects bring a sense of allure and timelessness.

Artisanal and rustic items are the perfect way for you to show your personality and design style effortlessly and beautifully.

Summer Interior Design Trends – Final Thoughts

As we started off saying, there’s no need to follow these 7 trends exactly and constantly be redesigning your home. It is, however, interesting to see how trends develop and how they could help to influence your style preferences. And, if you do like a trend, you don’t have to go all out! You can simply accessorise or update your coffee table to reflect the colours and textures that you like. They’re a great way to freshen up your home without breaking the bank or redecorating!
